Company: Steel factory South Africa specialising in hot rolled coil production

Application: Coal gimbal. A gimbal is a pivoted support that allows the rotation of an object about a single axis feeding coal into the system.

The CSWIB MKI seal was designed for coal spreader gimbal applications. This is a dry running seal sealing both gas and dust particles. This seal was originally designed with inserted faces. In 2015 this seal was upgraded to the MKII design. The seal bearing was upgraded and internals redesigned with monolithic seal faces which offers extreme temperature and pressure ratings. The first MKII design was installed in October 2016 and is currently in operation successfully.

The seal was designed and manufactured in South Africa in conjunction with the end user. This resulted in a fit for purpose product to suit a particularly complex application. Without the complete involvement of the end user the final design could have been a compromise instead of an elegant engineering solution.

Due to the permanent AES representation on site, further reinforced by 24/7 call out, the user of these seals has expressed his total appreciation for the services provided and the 100% AES support.

AES has seen unprecedented growth in its Cape business since discontinuing using a distributor. A direct to customer value proposition has always been the AES model and has once again proved successful.

AES has the strongest BBBEE rating amongst the majors in South Africa at level 5 on the new and latest codes. AES is also an ISO 9001/14001/29001 OSHAS 18001 company and is currently embarking on ISO 37001 (anti-corruption) which will be audited by April 2018.

AES holds contracts with all majors in South Africa such as SAPPI (all mills), Sasol (all facilities), Foskor, Arcelor Mittal, Tiger Brands et al
