5 years without failure and a ZAR3.2million saving

curve-down

A booster station within the sand bypass system at the Port of Ngqura, just outside Port Elizabeth, was having regular issues with gland packing on their booster pumps. The pumps, transfer 22,000 tons of a highly abrasive mix of sand and seawater slurry every month.

There were issues with the pumps almost immediately, with periodic failures, and an extensive and ongoing maintenance program required to keep the station working. AESSEAL® was chosen to solve the issue, because they were the only mechanical seal supplier willing to accept the port authority’s 5 year no breakdown conditions.

AESSEAL® installed seven inch CDPN heavy-duty double cartridge mechanical seals with support systems in 2009. This solution has worked trouble free ever since, saving over ZAR3.2million (£180,000) in maintenance and repair costs, and has helped the station achieve a transfer rate 65% over the minimum requirement.

AESSEAL won the contract on technical guarantee and price considerations. Visitors with similar applications are amazed at the suction and delivery pressures we are now achieving due to effective sealing
