Huge Water Savings for Distillery

curve-down

An alcohol distillation plant had historically used competitor single seals and previous engineers were not keen on the idea of changing to dual seals and systems. A change of opinion followed when concerns from the municipality over water consumption were voiced.

When AESSEAL® arrived, the plant’s sealing solution comprised of component and single cartridge mechanical seals on API plan 32. This set up used around 5 litres of water per pump per minute, this equates to 2.5 million litres of water per year. Some of this water inevitably ended up in the final product therefore diluting it. In addition there were concerns from the local Municipality over water consumption.

The Solution

Plant survey compiled on 19 critical equipment (water usage per year 38,304,000 Liters of water). AESSEAL® proposed upgrading to CDPN & SW02 Standard Water System. AESSEAL® with its drive on water savings globally where approached to come up with a solution for water savings.

Return on Investment

  • Cost before upgrade = R120,678.22
  • Cost of upgrade = R27,825.00
  • Return on investment = Break Even 2.8 Months
  • Water Saved 216,000 liters of water / month
  • Savings Year 2 and on = ZAR 130,152 / year
