On the 25th of January 2019, our AES Charitable Trust Representative, Mrs Patsy Waites attended the handover ceremony of the Senior Primary Library and the Junior Primary book corners at Amatikwe Primary School in Inanda KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The AES Charitable Trust is a key sponsor in the continuing collaboration with The Learn Project (a non- profit Trust which started 7 years ago and has put about 25 000 books into schools to date).

The day was fittingly celebrated and entertainment was provided by learners performing a play about the importance of reading, and various musical items showcased incredible talent. Mike from Books2You was the surprise Guest Performer and delighted everyone with his Beat Box act.

Mrs Ros Torien from The Learn Project commented that it was a special day as 700 plus children now had access to books and this was reiterated by an ex-pupil, and now member of the school Governing Body.  One of the speakers, Mr Dladla said he believed that a room without a book was like a body without a soul.

Principal Mr Zulu, admitted that reading was a challenge but private partnerships with his school would have a positive influence, as did the working with surrounding schools as a collective. He was very appreciative of sponsorship given at primary school level as it often went to secondary schools, which he likened to building a house starting with the roof.

The cutting of the ribbon and tour of the library and book corners was followed by refreshments and we were once again very humbled by the appreciation that was relayed to AES Charitable Trust for our involvement.
