What an incredible day at the Kasturba library launch. The atmosphere was electric as the sound of singing echoed through the school and the community of Bhambayi. After months of renovating and revamping the Kasturba Gandhi Primary School Library, the day had finally arrived to celebrate all the hard work and transformation of the new Senior Primary Library. We arrived early to set up the celebratory tea and to capture video footage and photos of the days activities.

An assembly was held in the Senior Primary quad and every detail had been well thought out and planned by the school as a display of their gratitude and thanks to The LEARN Project and key sponsor, The AES Charitable Trust. Programmer coordinator and head librarian, Nomfundo Mthethwa led the event in style and learners displayed their many talents through the various items presented, including dance, traditional dance, poetry, spoken word, a marching band and the scout group. The National Anthem was sung to begin the opening ceremony.

The principal, chair lady of the school governing body and The LEARN Project gave speeches and The AES Charitable Trust was thanked and made special mention of for their incredible sponsorship of the newly revamped library. Newly appointed librarian, Nokuthula Ndawo was made mention and her enthusiasm and passion to lead her learners in the library was evident. Her hard work and contribution to the Library transformation process was also noted and appreciated.

Guests were then taken on a tour of the library and joined for the official opening and cutting of the ribbon. A number of our other LEARN Beneficiary school librarians attended the event in support and celebration of this special day. Library monitors spent time with us in the library to show guests their new resources, books and equipment. New book shelving, library book block dividers, charts, furniture and cushions completed the overall look and feel. What a transformation that left everyone inspired and hopeful for the future of the learners at Kasturba Gandhi Primary School.

Thank you AES Charitable Trust for helping us educate our Rainbow Nation and for sponsoring this school library revamp.
