Water Savings for South African Corn Miller

curve-down

A South African corn miller had an evaportator pump that had poor reliability.

AESSEAL® were appointed to supply a mechanical seal for a Type Allis Chalmers evaporator pump for pumping steeped maize, a process whereby maize kernels are mashed with boiling water and then transferred into the evaporator by a large pump. The problem with the pumped product is that it contains many particles which could lead to failure – so the solution needed to be a dual seal and a water management system to allow the seal to remain cool and clean throughout the process.

A 3.000” CDSA TC TC TC C Aflas was installed with a water management system.

The solution resulted in a saving of R28,300 (£1258.36) in water costs for seal cooling, thanks to the use of the water management.
